After the Delivery
‡@After a birth
When a child is born to persons of foreign nationality, the father or mother must register the child by the following process.

œ Registration of Foreign Residents

Apply for the childfs Foreign Registration Card with the father or motherfs (person who make an application) Foreign Registration Card and personal seal, at the Resident Registration Section of your local ward office.

œ Application for Acquisition of Status of Residence@

Apply at the Immigration Office within 30 days of the birth

 › Passport of the parents

œ Apply for Issuance of a Child Passport 

Apply at the embassy or consulate of your country.

The required documents differ from according to the country. Please check at the embassy or consulate for the further information.

‡ALump Sum Birth Allowance

If you have joined the National Health Insurance Program in Osaka, you are eligible to receive benefits that will assist you in paying expenses related to child birth.  This system applies after 85 days of pregnancy and the baby is stillborn. There is also a lending system for delivery expenses available before delivery. You can apply for these benefits at the National health Insurance and Pension Section (Hoken Nenkin Tanto) of your ward office. If you have joined the Health Insurance Program offered by your company, you should go to Health Insurance Section (Health Insurance Association, Social Insurance Office)

‡BHealth Check up for Infants (Free of charge)

3 months, 18 months and 3 years
Your local Public Health and Welfare Center will notify you of the Examination.
1 month ~ 2 months
Please fill out the reception form of general health examination for infants.  This form is attached to the Maternal and Child Health Handbook.  Submit this form to the medical facilities in Osaka Prefecture to take the examination.
9 months ~ 11 months
Please fill out the reception form issued at the time of health examination for infants aged 3 months, and submit to the medical facilities in Osaka to take the examination.


‡CPreventive Vaccination (Free of charge)

Please take the various preventive injections with reference to the schedule listed in the preventive injection Notebook when your child is in a good health.


‡DMedical Care Aid for Infants

If you are a guardian of a child of six years or under who has not entered elementary school yet(from November 2007, child up to 3rd grade of elementary school is eligible for only hospital charge), and your income is below a prescribed level, you are eligible to receive a part-refund of your child's medical costs as covered by the Medical Insurance.  It also includes medical costs of hospital meals.You can apply for the refund at the Health and Welfare Section of Public Health and Welfare Center.



‡EChild Allowance

Child Allowance is given to those who have a child of 6th grade of elementary school-age (reached 12 years old to the first year of March 31st) is granted the month following that of application and continues until the child OF 6th grade of elementary school (availability depends on income).  Apply at the Health and Welfare Operation Section of the Public health and Welfare Center of your local ward or ward branch office.
