number.
Major telephone companies offer international long-distance
service through its own access code:
001 (KDDI)

For example, if you wish to call (212)123-4567 in New York
City via KDDI, dial 001-010 -1-212-123-4567. The charge
will depend upon the length of the call, the time of day,

by automatic transfer through your bank or postal account
is the most convenient method. If there is a bar code on
the invoice, it can also be paid at authorized convenience
stores and offices.
You can also make international calls from some public telephones

Public Telephones (green phones and gray digital phones)
are convenient for both local calls and long distance calls

IC Public Telephones (orange color) require the use of IC
cards which can be placed into the telephone slot, and work
in the same way as all other cards.
You can make international calls from gray public phones
with a "combination international-use" panel.
Most public telephones can be used with ¥10 or ¥100
coins as well, although no change is returned from ¥100
coins. Telephone cards are sold at KDD business offices,
in convenience stores, and from vending machines. Telephone
cards are available in two denominations: 50 call units
(¥500) and 105 call units (¥1000). (One call
unit is equivalent to ¥10 in tolls. )
